Thoughts about : Thigh gap

healthyfitandskinny:

Although it’s probably not the most realistic way to measure health or fitness, a lot of girls have become obsessed with achieving that space between their thighs. My opinion on thigh gaps ? I admit, when I was deep in my eating disorder, I loved having a thigh gap and I wanted this gap to become more than it already was. I was even sleeping with a pillow between my thighs because the feeling of them touching was driving me crazy.

Look at this picture. Thigh gap, no thigh gap, and the two picture were taken at the same moment, the same day. What’s the real difference ? On the first picture, I’m simply bending forward with my heels apart to make my gap look bigger than reality. On the second, I’m moving my pelvis forward to make my thigh gap disappear.

You might have small thighs, but they are still touching when you’re putting your feet together. It’s just the way you’re body is. We all have different body shapes. I have small thighs but I don’t have a ”true” thigh gap.

A thigh gap doesn’ t tell how many miles you can run straight, or how much you can lift. You don’t need a thigh gap to achieve your goals.

Hypothetical situation:
Let’s say we have two twins, both are 21 year old females, 5’4” 120 pounds. One has 10% body fat (or 110 pounds of muscle) and the other has 20% body fat (or 100 pounds of muscle). Who do you think will burn more calories if they both do exactly the same activities all day long? These activities include showering, eating, working out, going to class, reading a magazine, watching tv and sleeping.
If you guessed the twin with more muscle, you guessed correctly! The more lean muscle mass you have on your frame, the higher your metabolic rate and the more calories you burn in a day, JUST BY BEING ALIVE! That is why it is so important to build a STRONG FOUNDATION of muscle!! So many girls mistakenly believe they should “lose the weight first, THEN tone up”… but that is completely backwards! What happens is you simply shrink in size, but your body composition does not change.. meaning your metabolism will slow and you will be back to square one in regards to fat loss! You will simply wind up ‘skinny fat’. The trick is to focus on building muscle first, then work on ‘cutting down’ through proper nutrition, continued weight lifting and HIIT cardio! (Do NOT overdo the cardio or you will waste away precious muscle!)
